Mumbai: On 14th April 2023, the union minister of road transport and highways of India, Nitin Gadkari, announced building 5-6 logistic parks on behalf of his ministry.
The union minister spoke at the 11th Biennial International Conference on Ports, Shipping, and Logistics, where he announced building 5-6 logistic parks in Maharashtra on behalf of this ministry. He said that with the completion of the state's Jalna and Wardha dry ports, similar ports would be constructed in Pune and Nashik. While talking about the logistics park in the state, he also mentioned that by developing such infrastructure, India would reduce importing incense sticks from China and instead use the indigenously made ones from Assam.
During the conference, the union minister also expressed his opinion of starting water transport between Mumbai and Goa, which will be a game changer in the transport sector. He said that water transport is more cost-effective than road and rail transport. The cost of transport can be reduced if alternative fuels are used.
At the conference, he also expressed his regret over the delay of the Mumbai-Goa highway project. He said that several problems were causing the delay in the construction, which has now been resolved, and almost 73% of the project is now complete.
He also said that the ministry is working on reducing logistics costs to 9% by 2024. Currently, the country's logistics cost is 14-16%. "Better roads and lower logistics costs will help in the enhancement of trade business and industry," he added.
