TheDedicated Freight Corridor India Limited (DFCCIL) launched a new service on theWestern Dedicated Freight Corridor called Trucks-on-Trainon September 18, 2023. This has come up as a new initiative for pollutiongrowth and road decongestion. It believes that this new transportation modelhas a huge growth scope and will bring new changes in business growth.
Inthis, the freight train is being loaded by 30 trains daily from Palanpur inGujarat, which is transported to Rewari in Haryana with the help of a corridorof 630 km in around 12 hours.
Thenthey get unloaded at Rewari; after that, they will reach their destination byroad, and all the emptied trucks will get loaded on the train again to reachtheir starting point.
In 30tankers that are sent from Amul Dairy in Banaras to Palanpur, 25 have milk, andthe remaining five carry different products such as vegetables, machinery,diesel oil, etc., the DFCCIL spokesperson said.
Headded that they provide a special coach for truck drivers to rest on thisjourney. When the 25 tankers unloaded at Rewari, they are driven by road toPrithala in Faridabad, where Amula has another diary for packaging milk andother dairy products.
Theofficials said earlier the transportation from Banaras to Prithala used to take30 hours; the freight corridor has reduced this time by 20 hrs. Due to this,the quality of milk remains the same as it was at the beginning of its journey.
Heclaimed that we can say that Delhi – NCR is now being served with betterquality milk than earlier. At the starting point of the journey, thetemperature of the milk is maintained at 2 degrees Celsius, which remainsalmost the same in the 10 hrs of the journey. "
Theofficial said the truck-on-the-truck is not just a time-saving service, but italso helps in controlling air –pollution and improves the truck drivers'working standards.
Accordingto DFFCIL officials, the dedicated freight corridors can be seen as reliable,economical and faster transportation of goods.
Further,he said, "EDFC {Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor} isnow completely finished and is working on feeder routes to various coal minesand thermal power plants. The WDFC {Western Dedicated Freight Corridor}is also 93.2 per cent, complete with feeder routes serving different cementplants and the large ports of Mundra, Pipavav and Hazria in Gujarat.
The Truck-On-The Train provides a new wayof transportation, which saves time. The time saving transportation is the mostrequired thing at this time. This helps in reducing pollution, making it a morevaluable and reliable source for the future.
