Types of Griha Pravesh
According to Indian astrology, before entering or residing in any new house, the prayer or worship performed for that house is called the Griha Pravesh ceremony in Hindu religion. On the other hand, if we talk about Vastu Shastra, there are three types of Griha Pravesh ceremonies –
Griha Pravesh 2021: Significance of Shubh Muhurat
Out of all the 16 rites, Griha Pravesh is one of the most important rites, so it is mandatory to do it at the right time. A scholarly pandit or an astrologer must be consulted to calculate its shubh muhurat. During this, the priests look at the astrological calendar and make a proper assessment of the date, constellation and planets, and ensure a perfect time for a housewarming ceremony for you.
- In Hindu Panchang, it is believed that Griha Pravesh rites performed in the month of Magh, Phalgun, Vaishakh, and Jyestha are very auspicious. While during the Chaturmas, i.e. Ashadh, Shravan, Bhadrapada and Ashwin month, this ceremony should not be performed for any kind of housewarming ceremony because, in Hindu religion, it is considered a taboo to do Manglik work at this time. Along with this, Paush month is also not considered an auspicious time for Griha Pravesh.
- If you specifically look at a particular day, it is forbidden to enter the house, especially on Tuesdays. Also, under special circumstances at times, Sunday and Saturday are also considered inauspicious for Griha Pravesh ceremony. Apart from this, you can conduct this ceremony on the remaining days of the week at your convenience.
- According to the dates, the Amavasya and Purnima dates of any Paksha are inauspicious for the entrance in the new house, while the Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashmi, Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi of the Shukla Paksha is considered to be the best for the housewarming ceremony.
Procedure for Griha Pravesh Puja
The main motive of performing a Griha Pravesh Puja is to please the Vastu deity by chanting mantras.
1. Break the coconutThe Vaastu deity is pleased outside and the male head of the family breaks the coconut placed on the threshold.
2. Kalash PujaThe Kalash puja is performed by filling the Kalash with water, a coin and nine types of grains, also called navadhanya.
3. Place the coconut on KalashOne should tie the coconut in a red cloth and place it on the Kalash with mango leaves.
4. Chant MantrasThe priest chants the sacred mantras to this Kalash during the Griha Pravesh puja.
5. Take Kalash inside the houseThe husband and wife carry this sacred Kalash inside the house by placing it near the place of Havana.
6. Entry of cow and calf (Optional)It is auspicious to make the cow and a calf enter before the members of the family at the time of traditional entry. This brings positive vibes and prosperity in the new house.
7. Boil milkAfter the completion of the puja, the lady of the house boils the milk on the gas and let the milk spill over.
8. Milk offeringThe lady of the house offers the milk to the Kula Devta. Then, it is offered to other members of the family.
9. Offering food to priestIt is important that the family members should provide a proper meal to the priest.
10. Stay overnightHe family members should not lock the house at any cost on the day of Griha Pravesh and should stay there overnight.
11. Keep the lamp burningIn order to attract spiritual energies, the lamp should be kept burning.
Importance of Vastu Shanti Puja during Griha Pravesh
As everyone knows that the calculation of Griha Pravesh Muhurta and the worship must be performed according to that Muhurta with the help of an expert astrologer. But, according to Hindu religion, during this puja, after entering the house to its completion, one should enter the house keeping in mind many things:
- During the Griha Pravesh ceremony, the main gate of the house should be well decorated using bandanwars and flowers. Also, if possible, make a beautiful Rangoli at the main gate.
- After filling Ganga water or pure water in a copper urn, put eight leaves of mango or Ashoka tree on it, place a coconut on top of it.
- Make the symbol of the swastika with kumkum on the Kalash and coconut.
- After performing the religious ceremony, it is advisable to enter the new house in the sunlight, along with that urn.
- The eldest man and woman of the house should enter the house with only five essential items of Hindu religion such as coconut, turmeric, jaggery, rice and milk.
- While entering the house, first of all, men must enter their new house only by extending their right foot and woman their left leg.
- It is considered auspicious to install the idol of Lord Ganesha and Sri Yantra in the house on the day of entry.
- Establish the Mangal Kalash brought with you to Lord Ganesha at the sanctum sanctorum of the house.
- After this, also worship the kitchen of the house, and light a lamp making a swastika symbol on one wall.
- First, use the kitchen, boil milk in it and then make some sweet using it and offer it to God.
- After offering food to the Lord, distribute the remaining food as offerings to the cow, mother, crow, dog, etc.
- After this, provide food to the priest or a Brahmin and a poor person and give them clothes and take their blessings.
- It is believed that in this way, the house entry done according to the law brings happiness, peace and prosperity in the house.
Common Mistakes to Avoid During Griha Pravesh
Many a times, we enter the house during the construction of the building or before its completion, which is considered very inauspicious in Hinduism. In such a situation, it is always necessary to follow some rules, as stated by astrology, at the time of griha pravesh rites. Let us know what things we should avoid during this time: –
- Home entry should not be done until the doors are placed on the main gate of the house and the roof of the house is completely built.
- At the time of entering the house, according to the law of Vastu Devta, worship should be done with family, otherwise Vastu defects can be found.
- It is believed that the main entrance of the house should not be locked until a few days after performing the religious ceremony. Otherwise, the Gods and Goddesses feel hindered to enter the house.
2021 Griha Pravesh: Shubh Lagna
Lagna holds a special significance during the ceremony of Griha Pravesh. Auspicious Lagna is an auspicious time, during which performing any ritual according to the Muhurta is considered appropriate and auspicious. If there a special time running in a particular zodiac in terms of the Lagna, it can be both auspicious and inauspicious for you. In such a situation, while accessing the auspicious Lagna, it is mandatory to take care of some things. Let’s have a look at these things: –
- At the time of taking auspicious Griha Pravesh muhurat, there should not be the eighth Lagna or ascendant or birth sign of the house owner.
- The house owner should enter the house only in the third, sixth, tenth or eleventh ascendant from his birth / birth date, because entering the home at this time always proves to be auspicious.
- Griha Pravesh is considered auspicious in the first, second, fifth, seventh, ninth and tenth constellations in the house Lagna and sinful planets in the third, sixth and the ninth house and during this time, the fourth and eighth house is pure, only then it is considered auspicious to perform the house entrance.
- The position of the Sun from the birth constellation of the house owner is considered inauspicious when it is in the fifth or ninth house during the time of entry in the house, while it is considered auspicious in the eighth or sixth.
Installation of Yantra in New Home
To maintain happiness, prosperity, and harmony in your new home, it is considered auspicious and beneficial to install many instruments in the astrology scriptures. You should install these instruments with complete law and order according to your total tradition and reverence. The most auspicious of these instruments are considered: –
Shri Mahamrityunjaya Yantra: The installation of Shri Mahamrityunjaya Yantra protects against sorrow, diseases and any kind of crisis at home.
Shri Mahalakshmi Yantra: The installation and regular worship of Shri Mahalakshmi Yantra gets the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi in the house, which removes all the financial problems.
Navagraha Yantra: Navagraha Yantra brings happiness and prosperity in the house, releasing all the members of the house from the defects of all planets.
