The Delhi Metro is a rapid public transportation system that serves Delhi and adjacent cities in the National Capital Region in India.

The Delhi Metro network currently has 230 operating Delhi Metro stations list. The system has about 350 kilometers of tracks at ground level, above ground, and underground. Its 254 stations have a daily footfall of roughly 47 lakhs people (4.7 million). Surprisingly, the Delhi metro’s average daily footfall has risen to moreover 28 lakhs people by October 2021. Despite the Coronavirus epidemic, an estimated 6-7 lakh people use the Delhi Metro on a daily basis.

The Delhi Metro was developed in three phases, the first two of which were radial lines and the third of which was circular and semi-circular lines. The trains may reach speeds of up to 80 km/h and stop for 20 seconds at each station. The trains, which are made up of 4, 6, or 8 coaches, run every 1–4 minutes during peak hours and every 5–10 minutes during non¬peak hours. Some lines run on broad-gauge (1676 mm) rails, while others run on standard-gauge (1435 mm) tracks.

Note : Line 7 (Pink Line) is currently under development between Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1. As a result, trains on the route run in two portions, from Majlis Park to Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 and Shiv Vihar to Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake.

1. Delhi Metro Line 1: Red Line – Rithala to Shaheed Sthal (Ghaziabad ISBT)

Red line of DMRC was the first metro line opened in Delhi. It connects Rithala in west Delhi to Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) in the east Delhi. This metro line is partly elevated and partly at grade.

The red line of the Delhi metro system was the first to open. It connects Rithala to Ghaziabad’s Shaheed Sthal. The Delhi Metro’s Red Line serves 29 stations in total. The red line of the Delhi Metro features interchange stations at Kashmere Gate metro station with the Yellow Line and Violet Line, at Inderlok with the Green Line, and at Netaji Subhash Place and Welcome with the Pink Line.

2. Delhi Metro Line 2: Yellow Line – Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre in Gurgaon

The Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line links Samaypur Badli in Delhi to the Huda City Centre in Gurgaon, Haryana. Interestingly, the Yellow Line is the first metro line in Delhi to replace all four coach trains with six or eight configuration trains.

5. Delhi Metro Line 5: Green Line – Inderlok to Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Station

The Delhi Metro’s green Line 5 links the Inderlok Locality to Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Station. One branch of the Green Line connects the Ashok Park main station to the Blue Line’s Kirti Nagar station. The green line is a totally elevated route that travels alongside National Highway 9. The Green Line Metro serves 23 stations in total. By 2025, a projected expansion will connect the metro channel to the Rohtak.

6. Delhi Metro Airport Line: Orange Line – New Delhi Railway Station to Dwarka Sector 21

The Delhi Metro Airport Line is a one-of-a-kind metro line that connects New Delhi’s train station to the International Airport. It has made a substantial contribution to lowering travel time between two critical connection nodes. Airport Line, which was previously managed by a Reliance Infrastructure holding company, is now operated by DMRC as of June 2013. It connects directly to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

7. Delhi Metro Line 6: Violet Line – Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an expansion to the south of Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad on September 6, 2015. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the expansion south of Raja Nahar Singh in Ballabhgarh on November 19, 2018. Line 6 commenced operations in October 2010 and ran from the Central Secretariat to Sarita Vihar. This route is 43.285 kilometers long and comprises 34 major stops. In November 2018, the line was extended to Raja Nahar Singh Metro Station (Ballabhgarh).

8. Delhi Metro Line 7: Pink Line – Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar

The Pink Line of the Delhi Metro is the system’s longest line. Previously, the longest line was the Blue Line. It is also known as the Ring Road line since it runs largely along Delhi’s bustling ring road.

9. Delhi Metro Line 8: Magenta Line – Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden (Noida)

The Delhi metro’s Magenta line connects Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden station in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It is, interestingly, India’s first driverless metro line, and, unlike the Airport line metro, it immediately serves Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

10. Delhi Metro Line 9: Grey Line – Dwarka to Dhansa Bus Stand

The Delhi Metro Grey line is the most recent addition to the Delhi Metro network. It is interesting to note that it is the shortest metro line in the whole Delhi metro system. It only has four stations: Dwarka, Nangali, Najafgarh, and Dhansa Bus Stand.

The Delhi Metro faresare charged in accordance with the distance travelled.The Delhi Metro fares also vary for normal days and weekends and national holidays. The following fare is calculated for Delhi metro lines. Passengers can pay the requisite fare using Tokens, Smart Cards, Tourist Card, National Common Mobility Card or QR Code based Ticketing for the airport line.

Note:

• The Rapid Metro fare to Gurgaon is Rs 20.
• Smart Card users have a special provision.
• Passengers who use a Smart Card continue to receive a 10% discount on all trips.
• Passengers using smart cards who depart the Metro system during off-peak hours, i.e. from 08:00 AM until the end of revenue services, will get an extra 10% discount.
• Except for national holidays, the discount is only valid from Monday through Saturday.
• Tourist cards with a validity of one day and three days will be offered for Rs.200/- and Rs.500/-, respectively. This includes a Rs. 50/- refundable security deposit.

Delhi Metro Timings

Delhi Metro services typically begin around IST 05:30 in the morning and run till 11:30 p.m. However, there may be a minor difference in the times of the first trains arriving at each stop. The Delhi Metro Airport Line begins service at 04:45 a.m. and runs until 11:30 p.m.
